synset retrieval using wordnet vs image-net

Hello,
I have just started playing around with image-net as a probable
dataset for my research on image retrieval engine using wordnet
ontologies.
I would like to know the criteria by which the synsets are retrieved,
when given a query like "dog" or "people" on the interface. Image-net
claims to match 52 synsets for the query dog while Wornet 3.0 noun
synset hierarchy throws up just 7. Moreover, only 2 of those 7 are
actually present in the 52 synsets retrieved by the image-net engine.

Hello,

Currently, ImageNet matches query with synset words by the natural
language searching feature provided by MySQL.
