limiting thumbnails by height or width

At the moment, if you select 256 size thumbnails, a square size gets used for this and the thumnails are only using a portion of that.

Would it be possible to make it so we can lock it in to a specific height or width and the thumnail will size accordingly?

This would fix a lot of whitespace issues with the thumbnail view.
