I encoutered strange behaviuor of our player using IMA SDK.
after first ad is finished IMA send COMPLETE and nothing more.
And it should next ad be loaded or ALL_ADS_COMPLETED and CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED send.

Checked in Video Suite inspector - the same result: after first ad black screen stays instead of video playing.

Any help.

Hi Tomasz,

I was able to reproduce the behavior that you’re seeing with the CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED event not firing. Our team is going to review the issue. I will get back to you with more information as soon as possible.

Hi there,

Thanks for your response.

As per checking this behavior using our advance sample app, I was not able to replicate the behavior with one of our sample VMAP ad tags below.

https://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ads?sz=640x480&iu=/124319096/external/ad_rule_samples&ciu_szs=300x250&ad_rule=1&impl=s&gdfp_req=1&env=vp&output=vmap&unviewed_position_start=1&cust_params=deployment%3Ddevsite%26sample_ar%3Dpremidpost&cmsid=496&vid=short_onecue&correlator=

Could you please confirm if the ad tag that you've shared is expected to show multiple ads in the course of the video content timeline? I'm asking this because upon comparing the above ad tag against your ad tag, it seems there's an issue with the structure of the VAST response in your ad tag specifically on the timeOffset element (please see attached screenshot). All timeOffset elements are in "start" values. As per the IAB documentation (page 10) the time offset values "start/end" should be inserted at the very start or end of the video content.

Hi

Yes - all those ads should be played at very start of video and there is no limit of <AdBreak> with "start" timeOffset defined in IAB VMAP.

Original VMAP tag contained midrolls and postroll but I removed them to simplify tracking. Behaviour with mid-rolls and postroll was the same.
The main problem is IMA SDK dies instead of report some error (any error for example: simple I can not handle this tag is enough) and go on.

Hi Tomasz,

Just an update regarding your concern. Would you be able to test our advanced sample app with the CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED event added to the logging array? Kindly refer to the attached screenshot for reference. Please let me know if the issue would still occur.

Hi

I added CONTENT_PAUSE_REQUESTED (for test only) and CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED to logged events.
CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED is still not logged. IMA hangs just after COMPLETE.
Modified advanced sample is here:
Test ad tag still the same:

Hi Tomasz,

How Advanced sample app doesn't need to be modified in order to fire the CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED and CONTENT_PAUSE_REQUESTED events. In your sample app, you've registered them twice (see screenshot attached).
In the other hand, the CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED not firing when your non-linear ads are running is an intended behavior, the SDK doesn't fire the CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED when the ad being played is non-linear as in your VMAP ad unless you force your non-linear ads to behavior as linear ads.

HI

There is no linear ads in any response.
I prepared 2 new test tags:
In both tags first ad is 6 seconds bumper.
Second ad is different (but both returns no ad):
second ad is going from our location, it returns: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><VAST version="2.0"></VAST>
Event log for whole tag below:
Ad event: loaded
Ad event: ContentPauseRequested
Ad event: start
Ad event: firstQuartile
Ad event: midpoint
Ad event: thirdQuartile
Ad event: complete
Ad event: ContentResumeRequested
Ad event: allAdsCompleted
Second ad is going from adform adserver. It returns: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><VAST version="2.0"></VAST>
and event log looks like:
Welcome to IMA HTML5 SDK Demo!
Ads loaded.
Ad event: loaded
Ad event: ContentPauseRequested
Ad event: start
Ad event: firstQuartile
Ad event: midpoint
Ad event: thirdQuartile
Ad event: complete
There is no event send after complete.

Can You explain why with 2 different tags returning the same content IMA has different behaviour ?
I even modified response headers to match as much as it was possible.
Maybe this is not vital problem but it is interesting.

Hi Tomasz,

Thanks for getting back to us on this. I wasn't able to reproduce the behavior that you are seeing upon testing the two ad tags that you shared. Although the two ad tags returns no ads, both throws allAdsCompleted event at the end. The ad event sequence below:

  1. Ads loaded.
  2. Ad event: contentResumeRequested
  3. Ad event: allAdsCompleted

However, for better tracking of this issue, would you be able to create a new thread for this and will continue our conversation on that new thread?

With regard to your previous inquiry about CONTENT_RESUME_REQUESTED not issued. Based on the ad event sequence that you've shared (please see attached screenshot) using the below ad tag, it seems the issue has been resolved. Could you confirm this so we could now close this ticket?

We see the exact same behavior, nothing happens after COMPLETE event is fired.

One additional note: I can reproduce this issue using our ad tag with the Google IMA Video Suite Inspector.

I tested it several times on different browsers. Such effect occur in about 80%-90% tries but sometimes it starts to work correctly for about 5 tries.
It happens on Chrome ( 80.0.3987.163 ) , Microsoft Edge ( 81.0.416.53 )   , Opera ( 67.0.3575.137 )
It NEVER happened on FF (75.0)
It happens using Video Suite Inspector and Advanced Sample

Hi Tomasz,

Thanks for adding this information regarding your concern. As the issue seems to be intermittent, could please share another ad tag for testing? For the ad tags that you shared previously returns no ads, making hard to reproduce the issue on our end.

@Markus,

Could you please also share with us ad tag that you are using, so we could test as well?

Please use the "Reply privately to author" option when sharing this information.

Hi Sherwin,

Do you have any update on this issue? Did you check our ad tag I've send you?

Best,
Markus

Hi Markus,

Thank you for following up.

I've checked the ad tags that you've shared previously and tested against our VSI , now I wasn't able to reproduce the issue wherein the ad events would fire without ad playback. That being said, would you be able to confirm this on your end and see if you will encounter the same issue? Please let me know the outcome.
