Hello IMA SDK team,

I'm experiencing an issue with Google IMA SDK for iOS related to the Safe Area implementation changes introduced in version 3.22.0.

After upgrading to version 3.22.0, which includes fixes for Safe Area handling, UI elements like buttons are now correctly positioned within the Safe Area. However, it appears that the ad video content itself is also being constrained within the Safe Area boundaries.

As a result, even when playing video in full-screen mode, the ad video is rendered slightly smaller to avoid the home indicator area, while the main content video fills the entire screen edge-to-edge.

This behavior persists in the latest version 3.28.10.

My questions are:

  1. Is this the intended behavior? Shouldn't video content extend beyond the Safe Area while only UI controls respect the Safe Area insets?
  2. Is there a way to configure the SDK so that ad video content fills the full screen while keeping UI elements within the Safe Area?

I believe video content should ignore Safe Area constraints to provide a consistent full-screen viewing experience, similar to how AVPlayerLayer typically handles this.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the IMA SDK Support Team.

I understand that after upgrading to version 3.22.0 and later versions, including 3.28.10, you are experiencing an issue where the ad video content is constrained within the Safe Area boundaries, even when playing in full-screen mode. As a result, the video appears slightly smaller to avoid the home indicator area, while the main content video fills the screen edge-to-edge.

To assist with troubleshooting, could you please provide the following details:

  • Can you please share a sample project where this issue occurs? This will help us reproduce the behavior on our side.
  • Affected Devices & OS Versions: Which devices (model and iOS version) are you seeing this issue on?

If the file(s) you are looking to share are less than 25mb in total you can attach them to this case on your next reply. If you are having trouble attaching your file to this case or if your file(s) are larger than 25mb, you can share your files with me by performing the following steps:
