IMA bug in case of low network connection

Hi There,

In IMA Advanced sample, Master branch.

Ad Tag: Any ad tag which has 2 ad pods for pre-roll.

Use case: Device is on Wifi and Mobile network(but low bandwidth zone). Suppose first ad tag is of 20 seconds then switch off the wifi when less than 10 secs are remaining. Now let this ad finish.

For Second ad pod, Load ad will come then due to poor network, it will throw Log Error. Now switch on the wifi. player will freeze on ad. Nothing will happen.

Press 'Home button' then come back to application, it will start playing the content.


In case, when the player stuck if I try to stop the IMA plyer when I get Log Error; then what is happening Next Midroll load ad is not being fired. After this whatever ads are there, it will play normally.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We need more details on the issue you reported so we can investigate and provide the best solution. Can you tell us which platform of the IMA SDK you're using? Can you also share the Log error code/message and a screen recording of the behavior?

Hi Gourav,

We've watched the video recording you shared and noticed that the second wouldn't display due to no network access. However, we were not able to reproduce the behavior that you're seeing with the content not playing in case of low network connection (see screen recording attached). The issue seems to be with your network speed, we would recommend you to try testing on a faster internet speed.

Hi Arnaud,

But this is not the case where the internet goes off in between.

I say in case, you have wifi or high bandwidth mobile network then immediately while playing the 1st ad pod, either wifi goes off and switches to slow mobile network OR high mobile network comes down to 2G/2.5G then you can reproduce this issue. I am not talking about Airplane mode here.

I will suggest to test this on real device.

Hi Gourav,

We've tested the app on a real device (Samsung Galaxy S8+) and haven't noticed the issue you reported (see screen recording attached). As you can see, the content playback resumed once the first frame of the video was downloaded by the player. The issue seems to be with your network speed, we would recommend you to try testing on a faster internet speed.
