VMAPs with Prebid?

Hello

We are utilising the Prebid framework with our platform (Watching That) where by we connect Prebid header bidding (for video) to video players like VideoJS, Brightcove, JW etc etc.

This all works fine with VAST inline (and wrappers) because we can append the bidding KVPs to the ad request url (MVT) before the request is made.

The challenge comes in with VMAP where the response to the MVT is a series of nested inline / wrapper requests.

Our objective is to loop over each server url in the VMAP and add different bid KVPs to each of them, then send back to IMA3 so it can call them with these enhancements.

Is this possible?

Although I do think this is a specific technical question, although admittedly I ran with a lot of context up front.  

Per the last line - is there a way to loop through the each server URL in a VMAP response received by the IMA SDK before the requests are made to allow us to apply new KVPs?

Hi there,

If I understand your concern correctly, you wish to obtain the URLs of the tags inside a VMAP response. If so, then I'm afraid that the IMA SDK does not support fetching this information. Please correct me if I misunderstood. 

Kindly note that these are the only information about the Ad object we can obtain using the IMA SDK.

Ok - yes that's it. 

But to be crystal clear - you're saying the use case where a publisher deploys VMAP to offer, say, a Preroll and Postroll ad break an IMA integration cannot allow script level access to the corresponding ad tag URLs at run time before/at the point of that request?

If that's the case, does it honour any macros that might be used on those inner tags?  Or, more to the point, how would you advise a publisher that creates a part of the ad request dynamically (say via cust_params) to do this if they elect to use VMAP?  

For example :

• Publisher decides they want to run pre and post roll insertion / ad calls on their videos;
• They elect to uses VMAP to reduce the number of calls etc;
• The player/page calls DFP via IMA with a MVT 
• DFP responds with VMAP to IMA containing a Preroll and Postroll ad;
• Those slots redirects to a 3rd party and the publisher needs the Preroll slot ad request to contain a KVP that denotes this as the Preroll position (say cust_params:pos=preroll) and the same for the Postroll (cust_params:pos=postroll) to ensure the 3rd party is aware of inventory charateristics

How do they accomplish that?  Can they?

Hi there,

I'm afraid we can only assist you with concerns specific to the IMA SDK. As mentioned, the only information available to be fetched by the IMA SDK is exposed in the Ad object. The IMA SDK does not support obtaining the ad tags contained in a VMAP response.

As for your concern about tags and/or custom parameters, it would be best for you to contact your Ad Provider on how to set these up.
