Hi,
There's no way for you to know what type of ad response (VAST or VMAP) you'll get from the ad server until the ad playback starts and the STARTED ad event is fired. However, you can work with your ad provider so they can have this information available for you in the ad tag url. If your ads comes from Google's Ad Manager, your ad tags will most likely have the output query parameter of which value can be vast or vmap.
