Hi guys,

Just noticed that text ad types do not fire the "clicked" event anymore.
Image ads are working as expected.

You can test this scenario in Google vast inspector, happens every time.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Can you share the ad tag you were using when you encountered this issue? We'd also like for you to give us more details on the "Text ad Types" so that we can investigate further.

Hi,

Details as follows:

Test page ( Vast inspector )

Ad tag ( Ad type text, not firing click event)
https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?ad_type=text&client=ca-video-pub-4968145218643279&videoad_start_delay=0&description_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com&max_ad_duration=40000&adtest=on

Ad tag ( Ad type image, firing click event, working as expected )
https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?ad_type=image&client=ca-video-pub-4968145218643279&videoad_start_delay=0&description_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com&max_ad_duration=40000&adtest=on

Not sure what kind of details do you expect ( or am I able to share ) for "Text ad types", there are several ad types that can be loaded and displayed through Google IMA SDK HTML5:

1) Image Ads
2) Video Ads
3) Text Ads ( this is the one I'm talking about )
4) Flash Ads ( Deceased, no longer an option )

Also added 2 screenshots to be more clear.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I ran the text ad ad tag you previously shared against our advancedExample and the click event fired just fine for me (see screenshot attached). You need to register to the click event first and then click on a clickable area of the ad banner, the click event will be logged in the console.

Hi,

Trying to replicate your steps on the Advanced sample files got me the following error:

Ad error: AdError 900: An unexpected error occurred and the cause is not known. Refer to the inner error for more info. Caused by: Error: TypeError: Cannot read property 'h' of undefined

Just unzipped the files and tried it, not other updates on the files were made.

Attached you will find also a screenshot.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

The 900 VAST error  thrown by the sample is the result of an unknown VAST 3 error, which likely stopped the ad request. In this case, it is recommended to reach out to your ad provider to solve this issue. For more details about the 900 error thrown you can take a look at the Resolve VAST and IMA SDK errors documentation.

Hi,

I see you point, but what I don't understand is why in your example it worked and in mine not, we're using the same ad tag, should be the same outcome, right?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi.

The ad tag used by both of us in this scenario ( ad tag url  ) is provided by Google in this page.
So, as you can imagine I don't have an  "ad provider to solve this issue", but I'm kindly asking you the following simple question:
Why does it work in your case ( correctly logged the click event, as your screenshot shows ) and not in mine ( I'm getting  the 900 error ) , having in mind that we use exactly the same resources advanced example and the same ad tag url  ?

Do you have a live demo of this working example? If not, can you add it live somewhere? It would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

When you first shared the text ad tag, I used to get an empty vast error each and every time I ran it against the advanced example while it used to work fine in the VSI. Since I wanted to test it on the sample HTML5 apps, I extracted the VAST XML from the VSI, hosted it on my own server and then requested ad using the link to the XML file. Unfortunately, I don't have a live demo so I could show you what I did, but you can follow along the steps I took to test the click event.
