Problem with Android webview app - got error 400 or empty VAST response

Hi!

I try use this VAST tag: 'https://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ads?iu=/28240038/kerekmese.hu_preroll_app&description_url=https%3A%2F%2Fkerekmese.hu&tfcd=1&npa=0&sz=640x360&max_ad_duration=60000&cmsid=kerekmmese-vod&vid=kek-esernyo-dal-kerekmese&gdfp_req=1&output=vast&unviewed_position_start=1&env=vp&impl=s&correlator=&vpos=preroll&in_app=true&cust_params=vid%3Dkek-esernyo-dal-kerekmese'

If I try the HTML SDK inspector, everything works fine. I got ads almost every time. If I try the Android inspector, it's working. If I use it in browser, it's good.

But in my webview app, I always got empty response or if I try to run an own campaign, it looks like the ad starts playing, but I only see the attached picture for a second and then the video start playing and got 400 error.

What am I missing? What cause the problem?

Thank you for reaching out. As per checking the VAST ad tag that you shared against our VSI, it seems it renders an overlay ads (attached screenshot), could you please confirm this? Please note that overlay ads are currently not supported by our Android and iOS IMA SDKs. 

You can run through this documentation for the complete lists of supported ad types for each IMA SDK platform.

Thanks for your response and take look to our problem.

Yes, overlay ads could appear in the placement, but our Android app is not an Android Studio app, we don't use Android IMA SDK, we are using HTML5 SDK. It's a webview app.

What could cause the problem? And what could cause the problem with a simple linear pre-roll video ads?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your message and for your confirmation. I’ve checked our sample ad tag for Single Inline Linear using an emulator for Android via Chrome browser, I didn't see any issue as the ad works as expected. However, when I use the Single Non-linear Inline, there's no ad error 400, but I kept encountering an ad error 503 (attached screenshot). Could you please verify this (by using the above sample ad tags) on your end, and let us know if this is the same issue you’re encountering?

Hi Sherwin,

thanks for the links. I tried both link in my app, and both worked fine. So, for the empty response there will be an adserver problem. But, with linear ad, before the ad start the same play button appeared, that I attached in my first message. What cause that play button?

Hi Adam,

The IMA SDK for HTML5 is not supported on WebViews, we cannot predict its behavior in WebView environments. We would recommend you to set up your IMA SDK for HTML5 system for web browsers and WebOs environments (except WebView).
