Playing youtube video with the SDK

Hi,

Has anyone experimented with playing a youtube video with the SDK?

Is there any way to integrate it out of the box?

Hey Harsh,

What is it that you're trying to accomplish? Do you want to host your ads on YouTube? If so we currently support that in Flash (HTML5 coming soon) via DFP. You can learn more about that on the DFP site.

Hi Shawn,

So, right now I am displaying videos in the android VideoView using a custom mrss feed. Also using the IMA SDK with it to display the ads (using VAST 2.0 tag)

Now, what I wanna do is to display youtube videos (which publishers have uploaded on youtube channels) (via youtube rss or any other way?), while still be able to  integrate my VAST 2 tag with it.

With this I could show the youtube videos in my app (without opening the native youtube app).

Hey Harsh,

In this scenario it sounds like you would need to do your monetization through YouTube rather than the IMA SDK. Your best bet is probably to place ads on the YouTube video itself (like you would to show a pre-roll on the YouTube website), and then use the YouTube Android Player API to embed the video in your app. Hope that helps!

As I understand the youtube android api would allow me to play the you tube videos in my app. This is great! I can use it for that purpose.

However, I would like to integrate the IMA SDK with the player as well at the same time. 

Youtube videos for content and IMA SDK capabilities for the VAST support (unless YouTube player also supports VAST out of the box, which I am not aware of?).

Is there anyway to achieve this use case? I briefly saw the Youtube api, and looks like the YouTubePlayerView doesn't extend VideoView.

Hey Harsh,

Unfortunately the IMA SDK doesn't support this use case. If you want to have an Android app with monetized YouTube videos, you would need to monetize the YouTube videos themselves. Using the YouTube API to embed those videos in your app will also play ads associated with them, just like it would if the videos were watched from the YouTube Android app. You can find more information about monetizing YouTube videos here.

I decided that for now, I can play the ads using the IMA implementation and content using the Youtube api.

Basically switching back n forth between two views as per the ad requests. Lets see how it goes.

Hi Harsh,

Our Terms of Service actually explicitly prohibits using IMA products to monetize YouTube-hosted content. If you want to show ads before YouTube videos, you need to do so through the YouTube partner program.

i don't found any information about this in the documentation.

Hi Adriano,

YouTube-hosted ads are supported in the HTML5 IMA SDK. This doesn't require any additional work in your implementation. When you upload your video creative to DFP, you can choose to have it hosted on DFP, hosted externally (on your own CDN), or hosted on YouTube. You can see more info about that here. Very good song, we are testing the integration with HTML5 IMA SDK. Our DFP are using Video Rules and are working very well with HTML5 player + HTML5 IMA SDK and DFP Youtube-Hosted for desktops, but this is not working property wen accessed by Mobile Devices.

 

Can you check for any restriction or bug related with DFP video Rules + HTML5 IMA SDK + Mobile devices?

So if someone is using a video player that has the google ima sdk that allows vast and etc. and they past the youtube video link into the video player on like a news wordpress site.

As mentioned on our Video publisher policy(https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/3522024), publishers cannot use interactive media ads products to monetize YouTube-hosted content.

In addition, it is also stated on the above policy, under "Accurately describe inventory", that playing ads without content is not intended with the IMA SDK or ExoPlayer-IMA extension. Therefore, if you'd like to show ads before your youtube video, publishers must monetize through the YouTube Partner Program - https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851

Let me know if you have any questions or if I misunderstood your concern, kindly elaborate more on your issue with using IMA SDK.
