Hi Shankar,

Kindly ignore my previous response.

This Custom Ad UI implementation was in beta feature, and we are no longer accepting new publishers into this beta feature. All UI is depends upon the VAST response, IMA SDK won’t allow any modification in ads UI.

Hi IMA team,

Is there any way we can disable this "?" icon from GAM for direct advertisers? If yes, can you please point us to which setting in GAM should we change?

Thanks.

Hi IMA team,

Just to follow up on this, as we are seeing a similar issue: How should we interpret your comment?

1) Did something change so that suddenly default UI would start showing on existing implementations?
2) Does it mean, that if a publisher was a part of the beta feature, they can continue using it?
3) You mention it depends on VAST - is there a value we then can have added to the VAST response to not show this question mark UI, and how to do that in Ad Manager?
4) Or does it mean, that no matter what, it's no longer possible to modify the default UI?

Best regards,
Joachim Lykke

Hi Joachim,

The "Why this ad?" icon is a relatively new piece of UI that didn't exist until relatively recently, and which is required to be displayed with any ad that was not manually selected. Any changes to the features available to members of a beta program will be communicated to them before they go live, but there is no guarantee that new features will offer the same options as were available to specific older ui elements under specific beta programs.

The "Why this ad?" icon is rendered as a VAST Icon. It is automatically generated by Ad Manager, where required. I do not believe that Ad Manager offers a path to manually disable "Why this ad?" but I am not an expert in that system. You may want to speak to your Ad Manager account manager for more info on that front.

Hello IMA team!
Here is a few additional questions on this topic:
  1. Is it correct to understand from the previous answers that there are strict rules regarding when the AdChoices icon needs to be present?
    1. I have found this documentation page, but is there anything else important to know about this topic?
  2. Is it correct that this applies for both CSAI and SSAI (IMA and DAI)? If any, what are the differences?
  3. Does this apply on all platforms? What about smart TVs apps, where the user can't click on the icon?
  4. Are there any ways (e.g.: options in the GAM) to customise the icon?
Please let me know if you prefer me to post these questions on a new thread.
Kind regards,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

I can't offer definitive answers about AdManager's rules and policies, unfortunately. My team's expertise is limited to the technical implementation of the IMA SDK. For a canonical answer to the more policy-directed questions that you have, I'd recommend reaching out to either your Ad Manager account manager (if you have one) or by contacting the Ad Manager Help Center.

That said, I'm going to try to answer your questions to the best of my abilities.
  1. In general, it can be assumed that if Ad Manager provides you with an ad containing the AdChoices icon as a VAST icon, or a VAST extension, your implementation is expected to display the icon, and to support interaction to the best of your platform's ability.
  2. This does apply to both server-side and client-side ad insertion, as it is decided by how the ad was chosen, and not what technology delivered it to the user
  3. As I understand it, displaying the icon should be done on all platforms, and interaction should be supported wherever possible. On a browserless system such as a smart tv, where you cannot navigate to the icon's clickthrough URL you may still be able to record user interactions via remote. If so, Ad Manager provides an image url in the IconClickFallbackImage field that can be displayed in lieu of navigating to the clickthrough url, when necessary.
  4. As far as I know, there are no current options to customize the Ad Choices icon in GAM, but I recommend reaching out to Ad Manager support for an official answer. In general, while I would not imagine there being an issue with repositioning the icon on screen, the size, color, and design of the AdChoices logo is dictated by the Digital Advertising Alliance, rather than by Ad Manager. Straying from their standards for implementation would likely be a compliance issue.

I hope this helps resolve your questions.

Thanks
