AD_BREAK_FETCH_ERROR Getting on AppleTV

Dear Support Team, 

We received log event for this as below on latest sdk version
pod 'GoogleAds-IMA-tvOS-SDK','4.14.1'

["adData": <null>, "logData": { errorCode = 1009; errorMessage = "The response does not contain any valid ads."; type = adLoadError; }]

We are observing this delegate function for the ad manager:

func adsManager(_ adsManager: IMAAdsManager, didReceive event: IMAAdEvent)

Also, the started event is not being called. Sometimes, after loading, no other events get called in the delegate.

We are also receiving the event "AD_BREAK_FETCH_ERROR" sometimes.

Thank you for contacting the IMA SDK support team.

Can you please confirm the integration type is client side or server side DAI?

An errorCode = 1009 in the Google IMA SDK indicates that the VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) response from the ad server is empty, meaning it doesn't contain any valid video files or tracking events.

  • Provide stream details: if it is live or video on demand (VOD). Furthermore, if the content is live, what is the stream format and the asset key? If the content is VOD, what is the stream format, CMS ID, and Video ID?
  • If the issue is in client side then please share VAST tag URL
  • If DRM is used, please provide a "clear stream" that has no DRM.
  • Confirm if the reported issue is replicating in our Google tvOS samples VSI tool
  • Charles log when issue reproduced.

I ran the provided VAST tag URL in the VSI tool and I can see AdError 303. I checked your AdManager account and observed that ad unit ID “22754432841 > vlfight” demand channel is unfilled. My team's expertise is limited to the technical implementation of the IMA SDK. For demand channel is unfilled issue, I'd recommend reaching out to either your Ad Manager account manager (if you have one) or by contacting the Ad Manager Help Center.

Hi Team, 

Sharing following Ad Tag for further investigation:

I tested with this Ad Tag on the following video:

Pre-roll and mid-roll ads play as expected on the iOS app. However, on Apple TV, the mid-roll ad results in a black screen. I also observed that mid-roll play sometimes only.

On apple tv, Its returning Ad break fail and Log only.

Hi Rakesh Kr. Sharma,

Thank you for sharing the second VAST.

For the second VAST, we have checked in the VSI tool and IMA tvOS samples and observed that there is no Mid roll Ad, instead there are only pre-roll and post-roll which is mentioned in screens recording.

Additionally, we have checked the 1st shared VAST and observed media files are returning empty response/403 forbidden error.

I can say that there is no issue from the IMA SDK side. Now, I have routed this case to the product support team to investigate why VAST is returning empty responses/403 forbidden media files from the server.
