Postroll advertisement playing on re-usage of adtag. [HTML5]

Hi,

We are currently facing an issue where re-using a VMAP ad-tag will result in the post-roll playing in the background (you are able to hear the audio). Before making the request we destroy the AdManager and call ContentComplete() on the adsLoader as suggested here.

I understand that both are needed to generate a new correlator for each request.

 

We noticed that this issue does not occur for ad-tags that do not have a post-roll. 

Is there something additional required to prevent playing the post-roll?

Note: it seems to only occur when the preroll has ended.

Hi Alexander,

Thank you for bringing this question to our attention. In looking over this we first start by asking if you have been able to replicate this issue in one of our sample apps? Also we would ask if you have tested the tag against our VSI to see if the issue occurs their too. Do you also have a test page that we can look at as well as any steps to follow that cause this issue.

Hi William,

We have just tested the following tag against the VSI and confirmed the issue also occurs there.

The steps to reproduce are:

- enter the ad-tag and press "Test ads"

- wait for the preroll to finish

- press "Test ads" again, this will result in the post roll playing while hearing the content.

I would expect the complete player to reset here and play the preroll again (from scratch).

In our case we are able to reset the player and only hear the post roll playing, which also occurs in the VSI.

Thank you for bring this additional information to our attention. I was able to test this out on our end too. And saw the exact same behavior. I would ask if you have reached out to the provider who gave you the tag to make sure that there is no issue with the tag itself? But at the same time, I will bring this to my team to look at more and see why this is happening.

The ad-tag I linked above is the "VMAP Pre-, Mid-, and Post-rolls, Single Ads" from the IMA HTML5 sample tags page.

I also observe the same behaviour with other VMAP tags that have pre/mid/post rolls from that page.

Thanks for your reply!

I can already see some improvement as I'm no longer able to see the midroll when clicking "Test Ads" multiple times.

However, our problem still persists:

Using ad tag below on the VSI page (mac Safari).

Case one:

By clicking "Test Ads", I can see the pre-roll playing.

Wait until the preroll has finished, then press "Test ads".

You can still hear the audio of the content mixed with the piano of the advertisement (postroll).
                        During the postroll the progressbar shows the duration (1 minute) and progress (0:02/1:00) of the actual content.

Here I would expect that the player correctly resets (no audio) and that the preroll will play.

Note: During the 'faulty' postroll, you can press the "Test ads" button multiple times which will reset the player.
                                   This will have no effect on the postroll playing, and I can see the progressbar resetting to 0:00/1:00.

Case two: 

By clicking "Test Ads", I can see the pre-roll playing.

  If you press the button again during the ad, then the postroll will start to play.

  If you press the button once again during the postroll, then the preroll will start to play.
                        In this case the duration of the progressbar stays correct (10sec).

  I would expect the pre-roll to play every time I press the "Test ads" button.

I assume that case one is the culprit of our problem mentioned above. (Where we still hear the audio of the postroll)

I just want to get back on this issue as our internal team find this issue as an intended behavior. They have confirmed that unusual behavior can happen when reloading IMA without a page reload. As such, the behavior will not be changed in the VSI.
