Hi,

Today my team tried to run preroll ads on our platform, it used to work. While there are no changes on our codebase, we got a 1005 error code error with the following details.

AdsLoader error: AdError 1005: There was a problem requesting ads from the server. Caused by: Error: Failed to execute 'fetch' on 'Window': browsingTopics: Topics operations are only available in secure contexts.

I think this happened just recently. Why did this happen? Because it just doesn't work in the local development, not the production stage.

Thanks,
Najie

Ah, I forgot to add that it doesn't work only in Chrome. I tested it on Safari and Firefox, preroll still can be played.

Hi Najie,

Thank you for contacting the IMA SDK support team.

The AdError 1005 can be caused by misconfigured VAST Ad Tag or sometimes due to geolocation restriction of the tag itself and please share your VAST tag with us so that we can conduct a thorough investigation via reply to author option.

This message is in relation to case "ref:!00D1U01174p.!5004Q02tJau1:ref" (ADR-00245118)

Thanks,

I believe this is a change in Chrome 126 that caused the IMA issue. I can easily reproduce it in the ima official demo  for Chrome 126. I cannot reproduce this issue in Chrome 125.

Hi,

Verify once whether you are loading ads in un secure server URL like http ? It should load with secure URL.
Try loading ads in IMA VSI tool.
Also share your VAST detail with us for further investigation.

Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to add information about the vast tag that I used. I tried the Single Inline Linear and VMAP Pre-roll from IMA sample tags. It worked when loading the ads in IMA VSI.

And, I am working on Chrome version 124.0.6367.118.

Hi,

Thank you for the guide, I've confirmed that using https on our local development server can run the ads.

Case closed.

Thanks once again.

Just adding to this thread, I am also seeing this issue on Chrome browser. This issue started happening a few days ago as well.
Similarly, no issue for Safari, Firefox, or when running on a Smart TV device (which is using a lower chromium version).

I am mainly testing this on localhost / 127.0.0.1, which is not on HTTPS, but that should not matter.

Hi,

As i mentioned in previous thread to Verify once whether you are loading ads in un secure server URL like http ? It should load with secure URL.
As another publisher confirmed that after changing from un secure to secure url 'https'; it's working.
Could you also apply same thing and check?

Hi!
My team and I are currently working on an Android App integrating the Cordova Framework (so we're working with a WebView). So our origin is in the form "http://{appname}". Lately with the IMA SDK we're having the "Error 1005 Caused by BrowsingTopics".
I suppose the problem is connected to the latest version of Chrome/Android Webview that are both on v126 that are blocking from not https:// origins. I tried uninstalling the latest updates and the error was gone and the ad is playing correctly.
Is there any workaround or fixes that we can apply to fix the error? Is there a new version that is coming out that fixes this issue?
Thank you.

Hey Jayson,

There is no issue from IMA SDK Side. It is due to new update in chrome which stopped rendering local server URL.
I've raised this concern to the team. And will get back to you once i receive any update on this.
