Hi,

It's a joint issue of three companies and I'm not entitled to share all the information publicly, so I'd really appreciate it if we could start a direct conversation.

 The problem in general:
In JW Player, set to handle Google IMA videos, Google ADM tags used as 3rd party tags in another adserver don't measure viewability. We are looking for at which point in the process we should modify something to have all the measurements work properly.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Ágnes ,

Thank you for contacting the IMA SDK support team.

By reviewing your concern, I understand that you are facing issues with measuring the viewability when Google ADM tags are used as 3rd party tags in another ad-server.

If not already done, I would suggest you refer to the documents Get started using JWPlayer and Active View measurement to get more information.

I would like to request you to provide the following details to further investigate the issue:

Please provide below stream details

  • If streamtype is Live
    • please provide Stream format and asset key
  • If stream type is VOD
    • please provide Stream format,CMS ID and Video ID
  • If DRM is used
    • please provide a "clear stream" that has no DRM

  • Provide screen recording replicating the issue
  • Steps to reproduce the issues with google-owned samples
  • Sample project file where the issue is reproducible

If the file(s) you are looking to share are less than 25mb in total you can attach them to this case on your next reply. If you are having trouble attaching your file to this case or if your file(s) are larger than 25mb, you can share your files with us by performing the following steps:

1. Navigate to this link

2. Fill out all fields, and attach your file(s)

3. Please reply back to this thread when you have uploaded your file(s). Please do not share this link.

You can send the details via Reply privately to the author option, or direct private reply to this email.

Hi,

thank you for contacting me directly, and I'm sorry for my late reply.
I realised I hadn't given a proper description of our problem, I forgot to mention we are using the VAST video tags in our case.

The VAST tag from Google ADM is used as a 3rd party tag in another adserver (Adverticum) and the ad tag from Adverticum is served in the player on our client's website. I'm writing on behalf of Adverticum AdServer.

The media client has JW Player built into their site and they have been using VAST ads without any problem for quite some time now. A recent request of theirs was to be able to run other VAST ad tags as 3rd party tags through Adverticum. We've followed the documentation provided by IAB on how to implement 3rd party VAST tags and we've met the current problem while testing.

At first, the function buttons on the video were missing (play, pause, volume, etc.) Then we contacted the support team at WJ Player and they suggested that the player's setting should use the Google IMA option. After the media changed it on their site, the videos were running perfectly, every button was functioning and the basic measurements were also fine.
One new problem occurred though, the viewability measurement stopped working.

We checked and saw that no requests from the player were being made to the URL used for viewability measuring.
We contacted JW Player support again and they checked the test site and got to the same conclusion, the viewability measurement didn't work even if they checked the VAST XML on Google's ad tester (https://googleads.github.io/googleads-ima-html5/vsi/).

This is the test site:
https://nlc.hu/uploads/adverticum-vast-test-post-page-2.html
And the URL for viewability measuring on the site: https://ad.adverticum.net/s?cb=_jqjsp&st=eyJ1IjoiMTIwNzEyNDk0ODMwNTU2MTQ5Mjk0OCIsInAiOnsiMTQ5MjY4MjU5NyI6eyI0ODgxMzg1Ijp7ImciOiI3NDczMTE4IiwiYiI6Ijc0NzMxMTQwMCIsImMiOiI3NDMwMjA2IiwidiI6eyIzMzc3NjY1Ijp7IjAiOnsiYSI6IjEifX19fX19fX0=

I'm reaching out to you so we can get to know if there is an issue somewhere or if it's a limitation of IMA SDK and it's not possible to measure viewability in such usage.

If you need any further information, please let me know.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Best regards,

Hello Ágnes,

Thank you for the updated information.

I would recommend looking at the IMA HTML5 OMSDK guide (Open measurement SDK). This will let you enable third-party viewability and verification measurements.

This won't be possible to test in the VSI player, but should be a few line addition to the IMA HTML5 sample apps, or in your team's own app.

Add something like this to the ad request code. A different OmidVerificationVendor should be used if yours is included in this OmidVerificationVendor list:
request.omidAccessModeRules = {};
request.omidAccessModeRules[google.ima.OmidVerificationVendor.OTHER]
    = google.ima.OmidAccessMode.FULL;

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,
IMA SDK team
