AdErrors 1009 vs. 303: AdSense for Games

Hi there,

we are experiencing a lot of VAST 303 errors lately​​ in our AdSense for Games property.

Here is a sample URL [Link] with the VAST Inspector Suite, it shows the VAST Tag we are using. Every few requests there is an error

AdError 303: No Ads VAST response after one or more Wrappers

We are used to "VAST Document response is empty" errors, which are of course expected once in a while. Especially since we also use AdX for Games frequently.

But having a VASTAdTagUrl in the first response which then leads to an empty response after one or more wrappers is unsatisfying. 

My questions are:

- Does anybody else experience this behaviour?

- As a publisher, what can we do against this error since the Ad delivery is managed by AdSense

Hi Christoph,

The 1009 and 303 errors that you're running into aren't uncommon. That being said, we only deal with technical queries related to SDK performance and implementation on this forum. For help with this kind of serving issue, you'll have to reach out to AdSense through the CONTACT US link on this page.

To be thorough, I tested your tag in our Video Suite Inspector. The tag you linked returns a different VAST response on every request, and I never ran into one that used wrappers. If you continue to see issues, please share a specific VAST response that you're seeing the issue with.

Hi Chris,

When I see a 1009 error being fired, how is this counted by DFP?

Is it counted as a 303 error or does DFP not count them at all.?

Hi Mike,

Both of these errors are the result of an empty VAST response being served to the SDK. The difference is that the 303 error (VAST_NO_ADS_AFTER_WRAPPER) will be used when the response is at the end of a wrapper chain, while the 1009 error (VAST_EMPTY_RESPONSE) will be used when the empty VAST response is served immediately. 

As this is strictly an IMA SDK forum, I'm not able to comment on how DFP handles one versus the other. For this question, I would suggest reaching out to DFP directly.
