FriendlyObstruction API for 3.11 version of interactiveinteractivemedia

Hi team

import com.google.ads.interactivemedia.v3.api.FriendlyObstruction;

we are using interactiveinteractivemedia 3.11. we also want to mark our webview that we render on top of exoPlayerV2 as Friendly. for that I have to use FriendlyObstruction API but i am seeing that it is supported from 3.16 only. This info is per this doc https://developers.google.com/interactive-media-ads/docs/sdks/android/client-side/history

Please let us know if this API is available for 3.11 also via other means or upgrading it is the only option ?

Thank you for contacting the IMA SDK support team.

You have to upgrade the version and according to the release notes, the latest Version 3.36.0. It's always recommended to use the most recent version to avoid conflicts, so please ensure you've integrated the latest one.

Please note that the version 3.26.5 is deprecated on February 7, 2021

I understand the importance of recommending the latest one., Thanks for that.

However we are constrained on that part and can't upgrade. Is there any other API(be it deprecated for new version) that help us marking our webview as Friendly with existing version of IMASDK?

Hi Krishna,

Thank you for getting back to us. 

No, there are no such APIs available in the 3.11(deprecated) version of IMA SDK that help to make your webview as friendly. we can’t support deprecated versions of sdk.

It's always recommended to use the latest version of sdk, as of today the latest is  Version 3.36.0.

we tried using BaseDisplayContainer.registerVideoControlsOverlay API to mark our webview as frienldy as mentioned in this doc - https://developers.google.com/interactive-media-ads/docs/sdks/android/client-side/history. But its not working for our usecase. its not marking webview as friendly. we have verified this with OMSDK geometry change event which still loging obstructed view.

i am seeing that older sdk has `registerVideoControlsOverlay` method available on adDisplayContainer. can we use this to mark our webview as friendly ?

Yes, the older version 3.11.0 adds the registerVideoControlsOverlay() and unregisterAllVideoControlsOverlays() methods to BaseDisplayContainer. But the later IMA SDK version 3.16.5 deprecates the methods BaseDisplayContainer.registerVideoControlsOverlay and BaseDisplayContainer.unregisterAllVideoControlsOverlay in favor of FriendlyObstruction .
