Is  interview  to promote nepotism to be started in NEET  SS  as  well

https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/docs-concerned-over-restart-of-practicals-in-pgi-entrance-exams-398167

The  Director  PGIMER has  stated  that  practical assessment  as  part  of  entrance  exam  would  be  reintroduced  in  Super specialty courses  at  PGIMER. He  has  also  given  his  word  that  the  process  will  be  transparent. It  is  however  unclear  on  what  basis  he  has  taken  this  retrograde  step. Reading  this  news  I  could  nearly  visualize  the  erstwhile  MCI  being  reinstated  while  dissolving  the  new  NMC  and  the  notes  demonetized  being  declared  legal  currency  once  again.

PGIMER  to  my  knowledge  has  not  as  yet  declared  independence  from  India. If  practical assessment  is  needed  for  Super specialty admissions in PGIMER  then  it  is  also  needed  across  the  country. Since  it  has  not  been  deemed  fit  elsewhere  it  should  not  be  reintroduced  here. However  if  such  is  the  uniform  desire  of  the  faculty let the  entrance  to  be  conducted  by  National Board  of  Examination  with  practical  assessment  in   institutions  other  than  PGIMER. That  will  fulfill  the  director’s  desire  for  practical  assessment  based  admissions  and  allay  the  nay  Sayers  fears  regarding nepotism and transparency.

I  agree  that  only  MCQ  based  exams  are  not  the  ideal  way  to  select candidates  for  superspecialty  courses. However  interview  as  existed  before  was  a  backdoor  entry  for favored candidates. What  is  this  practical  training  exactly that  the  director  looking  for. The  MS  surgery  graduates  of  the  institute are  experts in pushing trolleys, drawing blood samples, collecting reports, writing discharge summaries  and  medical records  but  have  hardly  any  hands on  experience  and  may  do  well  in  theory  exams  but  would  not  match  a  graduate  from  RML Delhi, SMS Jaipur, or PGIMER  Rohtak  when  it  comes  to  surgical skills. Is  it  that Prof  Lal does  not want  institute’s  own  candidates   in  superspecialty courses ? It  is  not  exactly  practical training  which  is  desired  to be assessed , it  is  “interview” which  he  wishes  to  reintroduce.  Therein  lies  the  crux  of  the  matter. What  exactly  is  wished  to  be  asked  in  interview ; the  candidate’s  father’s name ?
