Integrated Medicine or Modern Scientific Medicine ?

Dear All

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) had been filed by an advocate at Delhi HC  seeking direction to the Centre to adopt the Indian Holistic Integrated Medicinal Approach rather than Colonial Segregated way of Allopathy, Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy in order to secure the right to health.

Medicos Legal Action Group had filed an impleadment application in Delhi High Court  requesting the court for an opportunity to be heard in the matter. In hearing held on 16 th October our application to be heard in the matter  was permitted  along  with  the  application of Patanjali.

Government is keen on integrating modern scientific medicine with Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Homeopathy etc and these subjects will hence forth be taught in MBBS  courses across the country. It is imperative that we put up a strong defense of our existing system of medical education which has so far produced  medical professionals who are recognized and feted across the world.

Unlike bigger medical Associations and organizations we have very limited resources which have already been spread thin fighting more than 10 active cases for common cause issues at  Supreme Court and HCs. I request those who feel  we  are on the right path and  resonate with our thoughts  as regard  the issues to please contribute funds  to

I also thank Sh Mahender Bajpei who represented us in this case in Delhi HC. It is however with a heavy heart that I say that MLAG is not serving its purpose and is no longer viable and we will soon initiate the process of winding up. I am disappointed and frustrated. It is like banging your head against a wall while thousands of your friends stand around watching. I thought that I was stronger than this but I realize now that even I have my limits. There is so much which is going wrong with modern scientific medicine education, training, practice and regulation but it  seems all this is visible only to a select few. Government has its agenda, nominated senior doctors are appointed to key positions to rubber stamp and approve the agenda. Our courts of justice have different standards when issues related to doctors of modern medicine are brought before them. We are expected to be noble and charitable after attaining medical education sold to us by profit making institutions. We have our egos and selfish nature which stops us from joining hands. Those who become victims of the system keep quiet. We will try to pursue the ongoing cases in various courts including the Madras HC where we have given our impleadment application in a PIL filed by DMK against constitutional validity of BNS & BNSS. Our apprehensions regarding criminal prosecution of doctors under BNS have been largely ignored by the rest of the profession. I wish people like Dr Rajeev Joshi, Dr Pradeep Arora, Dr K V Babu, Dr Tiwari, Dr V K Jain, Dr Ashwini Setya, Dr Geetender Sharma, Dr Hitesh Bhat, Dr Fahmida Banu, Dr Vijay Batra, Dr Raj Shekhar Yadav all the best and every success. 

I still am however convinced that

1)    Inclusion of Doctors under CPA is fundamentally wrong

2)    Doctors being prosecuted under BNS and BNSS will be a travesty of justice

3)    Statutory Compliances impose an Inspector Raj on Medical Establishments much more than any other establishment

4)    Violence against doctors and Hospitals requires a Central Law and strict implementation

5)    Mixing up Indigenous  systems of medicine with modern scientific medicine is wrong and both should grow                independently

6)    PCPNDT Act is draconian and the social ill will not be corrected by this bureaucratic pill

7)    Insurance and Corporatization of healthcare is not good for a country like India. 

8)    Oversupply of Doctors is not the answer to current healthcare needs of the country

9)    Superspecialization and creation of more and more subspecializations  needs to be restrained and need based.

10)  Emasculation of MBBS has been the biggest tragedy of healthcare in India
