This is pavithran from Andhra Pradesh who has recently come to TVM to
check a nice flow of mails :)
So here is my story . I went to BSNL office at pattom to buy a data
card which absolutely works great in windows ( no sarcasm intended ) .
Windows XP Behaviour :
Auto detects the device and installs an application which acts as an
SMS,voice interface added to the functionality of being a USB modem .
Older GNU/Linux Behaviour ( ubuntu 9.04 ) :
Auto detects as a USB drive from which the precious folder of
PCL_COMNLG.tar.gz can be taken from .
Newer GNU/Linux( debian squeeze and ubuntu 10.04 ) :
* Auto detects as GSM modem from which extracting the tar file is
almost impossible .
Luckily that Tar file has the dependencies for ubuntu . They are
libqt3-mt , wvdial , usb-modeswitch
What I learnt was Qt 3 was used by the driver software designers .
wvdial is for dialing the modem . The USB modeswitch is for
making it to modem mode.
* lsusb gives ONDA Communication S.p.A. ZTE MF627/MF628/MF628+ HSDPA
* card name is M/s. TERACOM LTD (USB Type) Linktop / LW272 with
3.6 mbps speed .
Looking for some cool solutions from TVM FSUG :)
Regards,
Pavithran

Uploaded it at my space http://pavithran.org/devel/PCL_COMNLG.tar.gz
for convinience of others .
BTW the modem also has a weird behaviour of shutting down when asking
to connect .

Thanks Jaganadh, Ahh cool so you or some one made a simple config deb
, wow thatsamazing . Is it made for ubuntu 10.04 or debian squeeze ?
Any version is welcome as its better to browse from GNU/Linux than on
a neighbous win* machine ;)

Strange that you got that deb file from the data card because the
manual associated with it shows some Qt3 interface. Well I installed
the deb on ubu 10.04 . It installed without any dependency issues and
it looks like the windows one . But while clicking on connect it says
something about associating with a default profile .
Also most of the menu options inside the settings part were disabled
strangely :O

I have also faced problem with my device but in f13.
It was taking that as some storage device so I used usb_modeswitch
then it start showing it in network manager.
There create the connection as it is saying but don't choose their
circle choose others there and use bsnlnet which is your apn then
connection created.
This just for creating connection though it is receiving the messages
but I won't be able to see them directly for checking those msg I have
to put that simcard in my phone.
Plain steps in english please :)

Sorry for that . go to /opt/JoinAir and run uninstall shell script .
your machine will be back to normal .
> I think for TERACOMguys linux means Ubuntu only :-)
Yeah they are so hopeless . Even for ubuntu they mention clearly that
its only for 7 , 8 and 9.04 and later versions may not work .
And they are giving this in 2010 huh .. we have a 11 version of ubuntu
coming soon !
Lets also not forget qt3 ! Qt 4 was released if I remember correctly
was released 5 years back , and teracom guys haven't catched up with
it :O
Apparently it works in 10.10 of ubuntu .
http://antojose.com/content/quick-how-to-setup-configure-teracom-lw272-bsnl-3g-usb-data-card-modem-ubuntu-1004-lucid-1010-maverick
has a solution but are long steps and I don't have a 10.10 machine to
try out :)
