[OT]Require help in spreading awareness among School Students

Dear All,

The IEEE Student Branch at College of Engineering, Chengannur had recently started a project called IGNITE. This project has been started keeping in mind the difficulties a student would face during the transition from school life to the college life, especially those who are from govt. schools. During the first phase of the project's implementation, student volunteers from our college had visited 60+ schools all over Kerala for this purpose and an introduction on Project IGNITE has been given to them. In the second phase we are planning to organize talks/seminars/workshops on interesting areas exclusively for the 9th-12th students. And we will be implementing 2nd phase in the month of August.

The reason for this mail is to ask for the FOSS community's help in spreading awareness about Free Software among the school students as a part of this project. We are a group of students without any support of external companies/organisations (Except IEEE). So you could understand that we are just student volunteers and there is no financial gain of any sort in this project. 

We would like to join hand with FOSS community in spreading the awareness about free softwares among school students. We believe it would be of immense value especially when the government has decided to use open source technologies at school. Obviously we wont be needing sessions on advanced topics, so anyone with experience using free softwares and and self confidence are welcome. :) 

I have kept this mail brief because I dont know whether you will be interested or not, but if anyone's interested we'll send you more details and the reports of phase 1. The 60 schools have been divided in to 5 hubs and in the second phase we'll be conducting programs at one center in each HUB. We are also willing to give a presentation on Project Ignite in the next FSUG's monthly meeting if required. We are also interested in a long term relationship and would like to hear your suggestions regarding it. 

That's it for now, I hope the students will benefit from this initiative. Some of us met with Hon.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, and he was very supportive about this. He has agreed to come for the inauguration of this project, and we are trying to make that happen. So the Project is in Beta Phase now. Pls let me know if you need more details,
