Hi Friends,

I , Rahul and Jerin reached zyxware office at 4:30pm and Vipin, Raru, Mahesh and Sooraj joined us at 5:10pm.

The meeting was started and we discussed about the Schedule and overall management of camp.

We decided to translate the following applications during the camp.

1. pidgin
2. okular
3. k3b
4. SMplayer
5. GNUKhata

The following where suggested in meeting ,

• We should setup a registration cum help desk, with whom attendees can clarify their doubts.
  
• The attendees will be divided into groups of five and will be assigned to a Team leader.
• The strings will be provided as printed sheets.
• Another idea was to write user manuals for common applications.
• We will conduct a "camp diary" writing competition at last day.
  

The Proposed Schedule for the event is

Day - 1

• Registration
• Introduction and welcome speech
  
• Introduction to localization, tools and methods.
• Introduction to Malayalam font design (?)
• Ice breaking - getting to know each other.
• Team formation and goal setting.
• Lunch
  
• Translation begins.
• Review of work.

Day-2

• Reforming of the team.
• Translation.
• Application manual writing.
• Review of work.
• Presentation of work.
• Camp diary writing.

Time for the event will be 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, But we need to fix the time slots correctly. And we are looking for a person to sponsor the prize to best camp diary.
 
The meeting ended at 8.00pm and was followed with some offtopic discussions, and dinner in hotel at kesavadasapuram -Thanks @Unais for recommending the place :-) .

Tomorrow we have planned a meeting, to check the things before
countdown. The main objective of the meeting is to organise the po
files, set up demo PCs, check the toaster. Those who are interested
can come.

i think we failed to exploit the potential of the people from the
kerala university who attended our camp.. in case of the ubuntu manual
translation, they could have helped us give a professional touch to
our manual if we had given them translated version rather than making
them do the translation.. the translation work was really hard for
them as their exposure to computers n free software was limited..

we could not perform as well as we expected.. but on the brighter
side, volunteers agreed to continue the translation work in their free
time.. they are also planning to divide the translation work among
their friends who could not attend our camp.. this could really make a
big impact if it works out as planned..

this is my view of swathanthra malayalam computing camp day 1..
participants add ur reviews here and pls suggest how can we improve
during our next camp..

Hai Friends,

    First of all I tell you all a sorry for submitting my review on the SMC camp ( which was contected on 27th and 28th of this month at space office-trivandrum ) late.It was late because I had many work to do.And also I yet dont see any others review on the camp other than Vipin who came from SCT-tvm.Anyway here is my review on the camp.
    The camp was really interesting!The camp was filled with many jokes and some ideas on some matters by many people.It was my first SMC camp and also this was the first camp of SMC where some girls too joined.For this I really thank Dhananjay,Jerrin and Rahul.For this camp we had done two meetings at Zyxware office Kesavadasapuram.The first meeting was on 24th March. In that meeting their were Seven people (Sooraj,Dhananjay,Rahul,Jerrin,Vipin,Mahesh and me).In that meeting we had discussed many ideas and were posted here(Link to that http://groups.google.com/group/ilug-tvm/browse_thread/thread/f0aaa85528c327bf/548970f14e0c7aeb#548970f14e0c7aeb ).
    Then the second meeting was on 26th March at Zyxware Kesavadasapuram.While the second meeting unfortunately Their was rain and So number of people had decreased to five(Mahesh and vipin doesn't came).An on that meeting we had finalised some and also we got some stickers too!!...
    On 27th morning I was a little late because of traffic block. I reached the camp at 10am.At that Time their was Sooraj,Aashik,Vipin,Dhananjay,Rahul and jerrin.But within an hour the number of people increased to 15 and go on till 27.In the camp most of the people where from CET-Tvm.When the number of people increased we changed some of our plans.At first Sooraj give some introduction to all about the camp.Then Self introduction by everyone of the camp. After that we Split everyone to groups and give different jobs to different groups.Vipin and prefer to translate ubuntu manual as we think if will be a great use for many.And we got some of them who came from kariyavattom university.After that vipin and me tried to split our team into two and starts doing the work of same ubuntu manual from different pages...Me got two others (One from Kariyavattom university and other from SCT-tvm vipins friend- Hari)But after sometime we realised that the people came from Kariyavattom university is having no use to the camp!!!And time came for food.we all dispersed for food.At that time Vipin ,Hari and me gone to have food as a group.While that time we had got some jokes!!.And we planed to become a single group with we  three and make those people from Kariyavattom university another team, So that we think we can do the work more fast!!.
But while writerning back we came to know that those people from Kariyavattom university had gone out!!!And that was something sounds good for us.And we starts continuing our work after getting a class on font dessigning!
    And we done 3 times more as we done in morning!!!And at 5pm camp was dispersed hoping all will be back tommorow!!!But on the second day the number of people was very less.Even I came the camp on 12pm a I ws having Drums class!!.And we don some work by some "allambs and all" !!!
Anyway the camp was really a good one....I think we should have more camps like this!!!
     After the camp we planned to write a review on the camp by everyone and post it here...And got many new ideas to make the camp more interesting and useful.

     Moreover that Me and Vipin is having an Idea to continue our ubuntu manual translation at home by dividing it to more people in mailing list who are interested in this.I think that if more people interested in the translation then We can publish it on the Ubuntu 10.04 release party!!! Anyway I and vipin are continuing translation of ubuntu manual at home with possible time.I request those who interested in this kindly join in hands with us to do this great heavy job!!!

Thanks for the report Raru, and the idea of releasing Ubuntu Manual on 10.04 party is really awesome.

Were the po files that got worked upon ( okular/pidgin ) submitted to respective upstreams ?

I don't know about the work of okular or pidgin as I was not in that group!!
I was Busy in translating ubuntu manual.Vipin had something translated with him.I had just started! And the translation we done on the camp is with Sooraj I think...

THIS IS A REVIEW ON THE CAMP ORGANISED BY SMC.
Sooraj,Raru,Dhananjai,Mahesh,Vipin and I began the discusion for
setting up the camp in Space ,Vellayambalam on 24th march evening 5:00
at Zyxware technologies ,kesavadasapuram.we designed the plan for
conducting the translation camp
in good manner.we listed out the programs that should be held on 27th
&28th of the month.the meeting was suspended by
9:30pm.sooraj ,dhananjai and myself went to a "thattu kada" and had
"kappa & beef" and the first day ended.Again in 26th friday
Dhananjai ,Raru,Sooraj and I meet at Zyxware for the final finishing
works of setting the camp.we decided the applications to be
translated.By 9:00 it was raining heavily with thunder in tvm.Raru
left us by 8:30,myself,Dhananjai and Sooraj had to find our way to
Soorajs home in the heavy rain......it was treacherous .....we had to
actually swim across a field to reach his home.Now about the camp the
camp started by 9:30 on 27th saturday with around 25 members,students
from cet(college of engineering trivandrum),some specialists form
malayalam dept kariyavattom campus,UIT(University Institute of
technology),tvm,sct,tvm.Campus began with division of the members into
three groups to translate okular,pidgin and ubuntu manual(10.04).Noon
the camp dispersed for lunch break after noon the translation
continued......
by 4:30 an overview of the camp was given by team leaders and camp
dispersed. We rejoined on sunday 28th with 8 members and continued the
translation of okular and pidgin.By 3:00 camp diary writing was
started along with the closing ceremony............THE CAMP
ENDS.....WITH THE HOPE OF CONTINUING THE TRANSLATION PROJECT.....LETZ
MAKE IT A GRAND SUCESS
