That sounds good guys. I have included ILPO Executive on this email so that Shiva and Neda get a chance to provide their comments if any.

The timing is definitely right. In terms of name, I think they want to shoot for a third name. While I love the name ILPO and while I agree that we have built quite a bit of good will around it, I think in the interests of unity and the community it would make sense for us to make this concession and move forward. With hard work we can build the same good will around the new name.

With regards to structure, in order to reduce the chances of any objections and friction from either side, my suggestion is that we adopt the common non-profit structure through the Ontario model by-laws, which is pretty standard, and conduct AGMs and elections pursuant to the Ontario Corporations Act.

I agree with that and I think for the most part the desire is there and the timing is right. The only challenge is how we go about it…having a credible person who is not going to be seen as “taking sides” help facilitate this process will be important. I was going to suggest maybe you, Ali G., could do that…on some level (and for reasons I do not know), I think Firoozeh who has been one of the main obstacles to this process would respond better to you.

My very meagre two cents, and my sense is that you would agree with me on this, but we should take advantage of this opportunity to bring the Iranian legal community together. Undoubtedly, this would mean that ILPO would have to put some water in its wine, but the overall objective of removing this artificial divide in our profession is, on balance, worth that cost.

It’s not fancy but the Pickle Barrel at Yonge/Eg is a good midway point. It is also on the subway line. They have lots of seating and we could probably sit there w/o being chased out
