Transliterate Names in Chinese Characters without Knowing Chinese

Dear Folks,

 

I don't understand Chinese Characters, but have been able to transliterate Names. The whole process is manual and involves using manual free softwares or web services.

 

To start, download the Wenlin Demo from  http://www.wenlin.com/demo.htm. With this software you can convert English pronunciation (pinyin) to Chinese Characters.

 

Lets take and example: Osama Bin Laden ;-)

 

To transliterate this name, first you have to type the characters separately and the Wenlin software will show you possible suggestions:

 

O/ will shows suggestions like: 哦, 噢, 喔, 嚄, etc.

 

Sa/ will show: 萨, 撒, 洒, 卅, 飒, 仨, 挲, 脎

 

Ma/ will show: 马, 吗, 妈, 码, 麻, 骂, 摩, 嘛, 抹, 玛, and many more.

 

Bin/ will show: 宾, 滨, 彬, 斌, 摈, 濒, 豳, 傧, 殡, and many more.

 

La/ will show: 拉, 落, 啦, 辣, 蜡, 腊, 垃, 喇, 剌, 邋, and many more.

 

Deng/ (the closest to Den in Chinese) will show: 等, 登, 灯, 邓, 瞪, 澄, 凳, 蹬, 嶝, 磴, 镫, 噔, 戥, 簦.

 

 

But, to have the name have a meaning, you need to translate these characters. To translate these, just copy the list and paste them in this page: http://translate.google.com/translate_t, choose Chinese Simplified to English (Beta) and click translate. You'll get the following results:

 

O/ will shows suggestions like : Oh, Oh, I see, etc.

 

Sa/ will show : Sa, spreading, sprinkling, 30, declining, Sa, fondle, Sa

 

Ma/ will show : Horse, mother, Ma, Ma, Hemp (Cannabis), Moldova, the better, worse, Mary, and many more. 

 

Bin/ will show : Chairman, Shore, Siu, Bin, Anyone, West, Bin, entertain, funeral, and many more.     

 

La/ will show : Latin American, or, anymore, spicy, wax December, Farah, 喇, assassination, shattered, and many more.     

 

Deng/ (the closest to Mr. Den in Chinese) will show :, board, lights, Deng, stare at, Cheng, plant, vegetables, fruits, ship, stone-step, stirrup, thump, the price difference, large umbrella for stalls.

 

 

Now its the time to choose the right Chinese characters:

 

For "O" - 喔 = I see

 

For "Sa" - 撒 = Spreading

 

For "Ma" - 麻 = Hemp

 

For "Bin" - 殡 = Funeral

 

For "La" - 剌 = Assassination

 

For "Deng" - 噔 = Thump/Smack

 

Therefore, Osama Bin Laden = 喔撒麻 殡 剌噔

 

The above name actually may not be a meaningful sentence.

 

But,  when it is your name, you should not use Chinese Characters that may make bad meaning of your Name.
