We give thanks for the life and ministry of Pastor Tom Miller
If we live, we live to the Lord; if we die, we die to the Lord; and so, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's forever.  -Paul's letter to the Romans, 14:8

Dear Friends in Christ,

Our partner in ministry, the Rev. Harry Thomas Miller, died on September 27, 2019.

Tom Miller was born January 23, 1953, in Frederick, Maryland. Tom and his family were active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Maryland. Tom was a graduate of the University of Maryland (BA, 1974) and the former Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now United Lutheran Seminary; MDiv, 1979). He was ordained by the Maryland Synod of the Lutheran Church in America on July 8, 1979 at Zion.

Tom's first call was as the Pastor of the Uniontown Parish in Uniontown, Maryland, where he served from 1979-1983. After serving a brief interim as Chaplain at Towson University, he was called to serve as the interim pastor of Third English Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served until 1988. He was then called to serve St. Bartholomew's United Church in Hanover, Pennsylvania. In 1999, he was called as the Mission Developer of Living Water Lutheran Church in Stevensville, Maryland, where he served until 2002. He was called as a pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Laurel, Maryland in 2003, where he served until 2016. He also served for a time as the Assistant Chaplain at the National Lutheran Home (now National Lutheran Communities and Services).

Tom is survived by his wife, the Rev. Connie Bergdoll Miller, seven children, and three foster children from around the globe. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (7607 Old Sandy Spring Road, Laurel, MD 20707). The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. and a luncheon will follow. Pastors, Deacons, and Members of the Order of St. Stephen are invited to vest and process (ready by 10:40 a.m.), and the color of the day is white. Memorial donations may be made in Tom's name to the charity of your choice, or to Diakon Adoption Services (836 S George Street, York, PA 17403 or online) in honor of Tom and Connie's five adopted children.

May our brother Tom rest in peace and rise in glory.

With you in Christ,
The Rev. William (Bill) Gohl Jr., Bishop
