Citizen Action/Illinois (CA/IL) is a progressive policy advocacy and political coalition that works for social, economic, and racial justice in Illinois. CA/IL has led campaigns for policies that benefit working families, including a progressive income tax, expanding access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, and protecting voting rights.

What You’ll Do
The Digital Associate will support Citizen Action/Illinois’s social media strategy, content creation, and engagement efforts, while leading digital advocacy and volunteer training initiatives. This role is ideal for a creative, organized, and detail-oriented communicator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The Digital Associate will contribute significant time to working on digital strategy and execution for the Protect Our Care Illinois coalition.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management & Growth

  • Manage and grow our presence across Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and experiment with BlueSky

  • Manage a social media calendar for Protect Our Care Illinois and engage coalition partners in social media strategy

  • Respond to DMs, engage with comments, and actively build online community relationships

  • Identify trends and create opportunities for on-trend messaging, including producing video content

Content Capture & Creation

  • On-site photo and video capture at press conferences, town halls, and rallies

  • Design graphics and video content using Canva (required), with CapCut and Adobe Suite as strong pluses

  • Produce social media advocacy toolkits for internal and external use

Digital Advocacy & Training

  • Manage the organization’s texting program, including writing messages, designing graphics, and overseeing volunteer response efforts

  • Train advocates on digital communications strategies, providing 1:1 support, workshops, slide decks, and toolkits

  • Track performance metrics across social media, email, and texting programs, reporting insights to the Executive Director

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Communications Manager, and other staff members to coordinate messaging and campaign strategy

  • Maintain high organizational standards for workflow, project management, and content scheduling

Who You Are

Creative Communicator – You have 2+ years of experience in producing compelling graphics, videos, and written content that engages diverse audiences. You spot trends and know how to translate them into creative campaign opportunities.

Organized & Strategic – You can manage multiple projects and channels simultaneously, anticipate challenges, and develop solutions to ensure deadlines are met.

Tech-Savvy & Quick Learner – You are comfortable with digital tools (Canva required; CapCut and Adobe Suite preferred) and can quickly learn new software or platforms as needed.

Community-Oriented & Collaborative – You thrive in a team environment, can train and support volunteers, and work closely with colleagues to align on goals and messaging.

Passionate & Results-Driven – You hold yourself to high standards, measure your work using data-driven metrics, and take pride in producing impactful campaigns for social change.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid position based in Chicago, IL; requires flexibility for up to 25% travel

  • Access to a car is a plus

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

  • Written fluency in Spanish is a plus

Compensation & Benefits: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $55,000–$65,000. Employer-paid health care and dental coverage provided, along with a flexible work schedule, paid holidays, and vacation time.
