Dear Markets,
This is an appeal to markets able to assist the Vermont Law School's Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS) which is being assisted by NOFA-VT and FMC, with research on different incorporation types that markets operate under formally.
The goal of this research is to create case studies which will be added to the CAFS toolkit for legal issues for markets which is in design phase. The final toolkit, housed at CAFS, will include information on governance, SNAP/benefit program systems and general risk issues in its final form.
The researchers are seeking markets to interview in order to select subjects for the case studies using those incorporation types below. (The researchers have a list of names of markets already for other incorporation types, but still may need to reach more subjects; if so, we'll post a separate request here.)
1. LLC (limited liability company) –
2. Sole proprietor (1 person runs business of market, no formal business structure in place).
3. Cooperative
4. L3C (low-profit limited liability company)
5. Partnership –Partnerships that operate on written partnership agreements.
6. Benefit corporation or certified B-Corps
The market will need to be incorporated as one of these types currently
and will need to be available for 2-3 hours in the next 6-8 weeks for one or two calls and through email
with project members.
