neuro  glia  Glial cells, sometimes called neuroglia or simply glia (Greek γλία and γλοία "glue"; pronounced in English as either /ˈɡliːə/ or /ˈɡlaɪə/), are non-neuronal cells that maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and provide support and protection for neurons in the central and peripheral nervous systems.

The glial cells surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between
them. Glial cells are the most abundant cell types in the central nervous system.
Types of glial cells include oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, ependymal cells,
Schwann cells, microglia, and satellite cells.
