Clean up plastic debris – and watch documentary about impact (City of Berkely 5/21/25): https://berkeleyca.gov/community-recreation/news/clean-plastic-debris-and-watch-documentary-about-impact
On May 30, gather at Shorebird Park for a waterfront cleanup, educational talk, and screening of Plastic Earth – this summer’s first movie in a park.
Come out to the Berkeley waterfront for an evening where we’ll grapple with the plastic pollution of our waterways using a cleanup, a brief talk and then a documentary.
Families, volunteers, and community members will start the evening with a shoreline cleanup at Shorebird Park to help remove plastic and debris from the shoreline. We’ll return there afterward for a brief talk on plastic pollution and the ecology of the Bay.
We’ll conclude the evening on the lawn next to the nature center with a viewing of Plastic Earth, a documentary about the global plastic crisis and its effects on ecosystems like our own shoreline.
We’ll show the documentary on a large, portable 20-foot by 12-foot inflatable screen with audio-visual equipment designed for outdoor cinema.

Watch documentary outdoors
We’ll end the night with an outdoor screening of Plastic Earth.
Bring blankets, sleeping bags, snacks and low beach chairs (with seats no higher than 9 inches off the ground) to help everyone see the screen.
Bring a flashlight or headlamp to make your exit easier at the end of the event. Please be aware that this is an alcohol-free event. Dogs are welcome but must remain on leash at all times.
Request captions at least two days before the movie date by emailing nature...@berkeleyca.gov or calling (510) 981-6720.
