Nearing 80, volunteer trash collector keeps on plucking (San Deigo Union Tribune 5/16/25): https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/05/16/nearing-80-volunteer-trash-collector-fred-nock-keeps-on-plucking/
While most septuagenarians in La Jolla might be basking in the joys of retirement by the sea, local resident Fred Nock is making a mission of his free time. He’s going on long walks and picking up trash along the way.
For the past several years, Nock has been taking walks every day throughout La Jolla. His routes often include The Village and The Shores and up to Mount Soledad.
Originally, he would go for four or five hours and cover 16 miles. Now that he’s in his late 70s, the distance has declined to eight to 12 miles a day.
