Coaches,

The IHSA State Chess Team Final event was incredible!  Tons of incredibly close matches.  Lots of great stories were written.  Congrats to Chicago (Whitney Young) for clinching the title this year.  It was INCREDIBLY competitive, and every team fought for every point.  Coaches, thank you for all your efforts in bringing your teams, and sacrificing your time and energy to make that event so magical.

The 2025 ICCA Coach of the Year is Adam Levy.  Congratulations coach!  Read his nomination petition and check out all the previous Coaches of the Year here: ILChessCoach.org/about/coach-of-the-year

The 2025 ICCA Division Award winners have been posted.
Congrats to all the winners!
6A - Naperville (Neuqua Valley)
5A - Hinsdale (Central)
4A - Northbrook (Glenbrook North)
3A - Lisle (Benet Academy)
2A - Chicago (Northside)
1A - Chicago (F.W. Parker)

The 2025 Mike Zacate Individual Award Winners have been posted on the same webpage as the Division Awards.  Thank you to Chess Weekend and Coach Glenn Panner for the medals and for making the trip down on Saturday to distribute them.  Coaches and Players, if you didn't grab your medals, you can pick them up at the USAT-North tournament this weekend in Schaumburg.  It's an AWESOME 4-board team tournament, USCF-rated, and one heck of a fun time.  Check out all the details here: ChessWeekend.com/2025-us-amateur-teamnorth

The ICCA Team Data Sheet has been updated. Remember to follow along every season! http://bit.ly/ICCAteams

The March ICCA Newsletter will be out towards the end of March with an article or three and the complete results of the ICCA survey.  Those data points can be useful for any teachers in a negotiating cycle, when considering stipends and funding.  Also, if you have anything you'd like to submit, perhaps a story of a player or the tale of your season, or a resource you've used, maybe even a method/lesson you found successful...  Please share it!  Let me know, send it over, and let's work to get it out in the newsletter.  Maybe you've got your own seeding model you'd like to share, or feedback about the processes and protocols, anything you'd like to share, the newsletter is a great space to foster discussion.  And of course, we'll try to include a summary of the Advisory Committee meeting which happens in March this year.  It's a good point to note!  If you have feedback about the IHSA series or rules, be sure to contact your Advisory Committee representative with your thoughts and suggestions.  Send it over while it's fresh in your memory.  That committee and process is how this event grows and continues, so let them know your thoughts!

Finally, it's an honor and a distinct privilege to serve this community.  If there is anything the ICCA can do to help support you or your program, please don't hesitate to ask.  I've got a few ideas in the works, and I'll be reaching out to some folks who expressed interest in committee work.  In the meantime, let us know what you need!  That's how we decide what direction to move and how to build out our resources.
