Hello Bird People,
Not much seen by me at Techny North & not many raptors at Fort
Sheridan so a short report
by my standards anyway.
Techny North (8:15-9:15 a.m.)
D.C. Cormorant (1)
Great Blue Heron (1)
Great Egret (1)
Canada Goose (18)
Cooper's Hawk (2, flying together)
Killdeer (2)
Greater Yellowlegs (1)
Least Sandpiper (3)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (2)
Ring Billed Gull (2)
Kingfisher (1)
Downy Woodpecker (1-M)
Blue Jay (H-1)
Barn (4) & Cliff (1) Swallows
Robin (H-1)
Warbling Vireo (H-1)
Goldfinch (2)
Fort Sheridan Hawk Watch (10 am-12:30 pm)
Official counters were Jeff B & Amanda T. Also present were Joel G & Rich D.
Turkey Vulture (3), Bald Eagle (2-AD & 1-IM), Cooper's Hawk (2) & Red
Tailed Hawk (1)
(Others saw Sharp Shinned Hawks but I missed them)
Mourning Dove (1)
Chimney Swift (~10)
Red Headed Woodpecker & Flicker (1 each heard)
Blue Jay (H-1)
Song (1) & Savannah (1) Sparrows
CLAY COLORED SPARROW (1, seen poorly by me but seen better by others)
Goldfinch (2)
So 18 species plus 2 roadside additions for a day's total of 20.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the poorly seen Clay Colored Sparrow & Runner-Up to
the Bald Eagles.
