Hello Bird People,

Spent 3 1/2 hours covering the beach & dunes & then another 30 min
covering briefly the Hedge Area. Had 7 species of common shorebirds &
not much at the Hedge.

Beach Birds (5:45-9:15 am)

D.C. Cormorant (1, lake)
Canada Goose (~35)
Mallard (2-F)
Killdeer (14)
Piping Plover (1, Frankie)
Semipalmated Plover (5)
Lesser Yellowlegs (1)
Spotted Sandpiper (3)
Least Sandpiper (2)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (3)
Ring Billed (~140) & Herring (2) Gulls
Eastern Kingbird (1)
Purple Martin (4, beach)
Barn Swallow (~25, beach)
Song Sparrow (1), Red Wings (2) & House Finch (2)

Hedge Area Birds (9:15-9:45 am)

Rock Pigeon (1)
Chimney Swift (1)
Ruby Throated Hummer (1)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (1)
(Another Eastern Kingbird)
Chickadee (1) & House Wren (1)
Robin (4) & Starling (6)
Warbling Vireo (1)
Cardinal (2)
House Sparrow (10)

So 29 species at Montrose plus roadside Blue Jays & I heard one Common
Nighthawk on the way in while it was still dark.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Lesser Yellowlegs & Runners-Up will be
Frankie the Piping Plover & the Hummingbird.
