to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Only had time for one location today as I had to go to the dentist in
the early afternoon. So I went to the Botanic Garden where I mostly
saw expected Summer residents except for one surprise.
Chicago Botanic Garden (7:45-11:20 am)
D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Great Blue Heron (3)
Green Heron (2)
(No Egrets today)
Canada Goose (groups of 16, 18 & 23)
Mallard (6)
Killdeer (2)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Ring Billed Gull (1 fly-by)
Caspian Tern (3)
Mourning Dove (2)
Kingfisher (1)
Flicker (1)
Eastern Kingbird (2)
Purple Martin (15-20)
Tree (2), Cliff (5) & Barn (8) Swallows
Blue Jay (1)
Chickadee (3)
MARSH WREN (1, singing at the mudflats, seldom at this location)
Robin (~40)
Starling (2)
Warbling Vireo (5)
Yellow Warbler (1)
Common Yellowthroat (H-1)
Cardinal (1-M)
Indigo Bunting (1-M & 1-F)
Song Sparrow (5)
Red Wings (10) Grackles (8) & Cowbirds (3)
Baltimore Oriole (H-1)
House Finch (6-8)
Goldfinch (11)
EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH (2- AD, a good sighting for Cook County & a 1st for
me at the CBG)
House Sparrow (12-15)
No sign of the Ospreys today, no adults by the nest platform & no
young in the nest?
Maybe they have abandoned the nest? Maybe not?
So 36 species at the CBG plus 2 roadside additions for a day's total of 38.
Bird-Of-The-Day & Fancy Pants Bird Of The Day will be the 2 European
Goldfinches &
Runners-Up to the singing Marsh Wren & the Indigo Buntings.
License Plate Of The Day was one from Mexico, a lifer plate for me
from Durango.
This at the Botanic Garden main lot.
