Hello Bird People,

With the snow on Sunday I just checked a few local lakes & the St
Adelbert Cemetery. Not much on the lakes but as I drove around St
Adelbert's I did locate one female MERLIN in spite of it being too
early (1 p.m.) for the Merlin's to arrive for the night's roosting.
Not much else except for geese.

On Monday it was not only cold (26 degrees) but it was very windy, a
bad combination! So I started at the River Trail Nature Center &
watched the feeders from outside & inside the building. Only had the
regular suspects Here's my bird list.

River Trail Nature Center (9:30-10:15 a.m.)

Mourning Dove (6)
Red Tailed Hawk (1, hunting)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (1)
Downy Woodpecker (1-M & 1-F)
Hairy Woodpecker (1-F)
Blue Jay (2)
Chickadee (5)
W.B. Nuthatch (2)
Starling (4)
Cardinal (4-M & 3-F)
WHITE THROATED SPARROW (1)
Junco (11)
House Finch (15)
Goldfinch (8)
House Sparrow (35-40)

Also checked Lake Opeka & Axehead Lake but as usual I found no
migrating ducks & very few
other birds. However, while at Axehead Lake I heard & then saw about
100 SANDHILL CRANES going south & later while at Acacia Cemetery to
buy wreaths I saw another 75 Cranes again going south.

Bird-Of-The-Day on Sunday to the cemetery Merlin & Bird-Of-The-Day on
Monday to all those
migrating Sandhill Cranes.
