to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Still cold at the start of the day but warmer later. Only covered Lake
Glenview & I was glad to see at least some migrating ducks have
arrived. Someone reported a few Common Mergansers in with the Red
Breasted Mergansers but I could not find them as the Mergansers were
all very far away & I didn't have my scope. Also reported here in the
last week were Eastern Phoebe & Shrike but I didn't find them either.
I also stopped at Techny North but that place is almost completely
frozen over. However, It should open up again with temps in the 40's
over the next few days.
Lake Glenview (8:40-10:30 a.m.)
Great Blue Heron (1 hardy bird)
Canada Goose (~75, flew in later)
Mallard (96)
Goldeneye (1-M)
Hooded Merganser (2-F)
Red Breasted Merganser (36)
Ring Billed Gull (16, on the boardwalk)
Herring Gull (10, trying to steal fish from the Mergansers)
Rock Pigeon (18, near the train station)
Mourning Dove (2)
KESTREL (1)
Red Tailed Hawk (1)
FLICKER (1, 1st one I've seen in November)
Blue Jay (2)
Robin (4)
Starling (24)
Tree Sparrow (6)
Junco (4)
House Finch (2)
Goldfinch (also 2)
House Sparrow (~10)
So only 21 species for the day at Lake Glenview.
Bird-Of-The-Day to my 1st November Flicker & Runners-Up to the Kestrel
& the late Heron.
