to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Looking at my list of February birds I could see that I was lacking in
feeder birds. One way to correct that would be to visit the Little Red
Schoolhouse so that's what I did today.
Little Red Schoolhouse (10-11:45 am)
Did not see or hear the Carolina Wren nor a Pileated Woodpecker today
although I usually find them here. Can't get them all!
Mourning Dove (12)
Red Bellied Woodpecker (4)
Downy Woodpecker (2)
Hairy Woodpecker (1-M & 1-F)
Blue Jay (12-15)
Chickadee (4)
Tufted Titmouse (2)
W.B. Nuthatch (3)
Robin (4)
Starling (~35)
Cardinal (8)
Tree Sparrow (10-12)
WHITE THROATED SPARROW (1)
Junco (12)
Red Winged Blackbird (6-M)
Cowbird (4-M & 3-F)
House Finch (3)
PURPLE FINCH (10-F & 2-M) (Had 8 females in one tree at one time)
Goldfinch (14, one male was molting into breeding plumage with the black head)
House Sparrow (~15)
Lake Opeka (1:15-1:30 pm)
Two small open water areas but everything else is frozen.
Canada Goose (107), Mallard (3), Goldeneye (1-PR) & Herring Gulls (36)
So 24 species at my 2 locations plus 3 roadside additions for a total
of 27 for the day.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the many Purple Finches & Runners-Up to the White
Throated Sparrow
& the Tufted Titmouse.
