To you of us who have many hours at Montrose in previous years, you may be saddened by the news of the passing of Craig Millard. He birded Montrose for many years, and has travelled to many foreign countries in his pursuit of birds. I have also run into him many times at High Island and other locations. He was in Thailand at the time of his passing.

I found his obituary in today’s Chicago Tribune.

Craig was a true gentleman. Every encounter I had with him sparked interesting conversation and brought a little joy into life.  Such a kind and engaging soul.  I will miss him.

Just read of his passing.  What a loss of a great guy and birder. Condolences to his family and friends.

Craig really was a great guy; he was always upbeat, even when his target birds eluded him, and he was very helpful to other birders. Last October during the huge migration day at Montrose, several dozen warblers were found stuck in a thistle-like weed, and he helped Connie Smith, and others of us try to extract thebirds to be released or go to wildlife rehab. In the process Craig ruined his compression socks, but he was unfazed by that. I am very sad he won't be with us in the future.
