Hello Bird People,
Again too cold for normal birding but I did drive by Lake Opeka & Axehead Lake.
Axehead continues to be frozen solid while surprisingly Opeka has 2
small open water areas which are there because there's an aerator or 2
running, the bubbler effect.
Lake Opeka (11:30-11:45 am)
Canada Goose (24, eating grass on the lawns)
Goldeneye (1-M, only 1 left in the icy water)
Herring Gull (36, on the ice)
Axehead Lake (11:55 am-12:05 pm)
Only land birds:Rock Pigeons (~26), Robins (2) & Tree Sparrow (1)
Only 6 species at the 2 lakes plus roadside Starlings & House Sparrows
for a total of 8 species.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Goldeneye as it was the only bird today I did
not expect to see.
