to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Spent the morning looking for land birds in Lake County with Bob
Erickson. Since all 3 places I visited today had the same birds I will
not do complete lists as they will show pretty much the same birds. I
will list all the Warblers seen & then mention any other highlights.
Half Day F.P.
Warblers seen were Golden Winged (1), Nashville (1), Black & White
(2), Palm (1), Redstart (1-M) & Yellow Rumped Myrtle (2). Other
highlights included Rose Breasted Grosbeak & both Orchard & Baltimore
Orioles. Also heard 2 Wood Thrushes.
Dan Wright F.P.
Warblers were Blue Winged (1), Golden Winged (1), Yellow Warbler (2),
Black & White (2),
Black Throated Green (2), Prothonotary (1) & Common Yellowthroat (2).
Other highlights included a fly-by Osprey, an Eastern Phoebe, a Blue
Headed Vireo, a male Scarlet Tanager, a Kingfisher & a family of Great
Horned Owls, 2 adults & one large young one.
Also one Eastern Bluebird.
Ryerson C.A.
Warblers were Northern Parula (1), Black & White (2), Black Throated
Green (2), Blackburnian (1) & one Black Throated Blue. Other
highlights included Veery & Swainson's Thrush, two Eastern Bluebirds &
another Great Horned Owl.
The Blue Winged, Prothonotary & Blackburnian Warblers were all new
year birds for me.
So 58 species for the day at my 3 locations plus one roadside addition
for a day's total of 59.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the family group of Great Horned Owls.
Runners-Up to the 3 new year birds & the male Orchard Oriole.
