to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
The fine print of the callery pear ban is growers have a 2-year grace period to reduce their supply. Through outreach we can reduce demand—to benefit grassland birds. I cringe when I read “flowering pear” on a tag in garden centers.

There were 3.235 sandhill cranes at Jasper Pulaski FWA this week. I usually run into some of you at J-P’s office or on the viewing deck; and since crane counts are one of my connections with TWI, I’ll take this op to say that after my IBET post about going (or not) to The Wetlands Initiative’s 30th anniversary gala, I’ve heard from or about enough birders who are going that I decided to stay up late on a weeknight. Sounds like fun. See some of you fun birders there! I think today may have been the deadline to purchase a ticket.
