to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
I first went to the Centennial Trail in Cook/DuPage County but all I
saw there was a flock of Canada Geese. The Swans were not to be found
by me.
Then to Rock Run Rookery in Will County which was entirely ice free
but had only a small number of water birds, much fewer than the last
time I was here. Also no Eagles nor rare gulls.
Rock Run Rookery (10:35- 11:10 am) (Got to discuss the Bears game with
birder Joe Troy)
Great Blue Heron (8)
Canada Goose (1 flock of 14-16 Geese)
Mallard (2-M & 1-F)
Lesser Scaup (3)
Redhead (10-M & 2-F)
Ring Necked Duck (~45, all in the 1st pond off Youngs Rd)
Goldeneye (55-60)
Hooded Merganser (18)
Common Merganser (15)
Red Breasted Merganser (4)
Ring Billed Gull (~50)
Herring Gull (4)
Blue Jay (1)
Robin (2)
Junco (8-10)
Not much today, only 15 species at Rock Run plus 3 additional roadside
birds for a total of 18,
Bird-Of-The-Day to the 8 Great Blue Herons & Runners-Up to the Ring
Necked Ducks & the
Lesser Scaup which were both new year birds.
