to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,

For the last month or so I have been having blurred vision in my right
eye which the eye doctor thought was caused by scar tissue from my
cataract surgery from two years ago. So yesterday they zapped my eye
with a laser to fix the problem. And it worked very well as I can now
see clearly in both eyes. The only problem is that I now have 12-15
floaters to deal with but this is only supposed to last for a few more
days. I have big floaters & small floaters & they are black, brown &
multicolored to boot. One is glass like & looks like a microscopic
amoeba! Most look like caterpillars. So I had plenty to look at even
when not looking at birds. Never a dull moment.

Techny Basin (9:20-10:45 am)

Canada Goose (7) & Mallard (32)
Hooded (1-M) & Red Breasted (7) Mergansers
(one set of feeders on the east side of the loop path had all of the land birds)
Downy Woodpecker (1)
Blue Jay (H-1)
RED BREASTED NUTHATCH (1)
Cardinal (1-M)
Tree Sparrow (2)
Junco (4)
Red Wings (3)
House Finch (1-F)
House Sparrow (~10)

Lake Glenview (11-11:35 am)

Canada Goose (175-180)
Mallard (22), Goldeneye (4) & Red Breasted Merganser (26)
Ring Billed (9) & Herring (4) Gulls
House Sparrow (heard)

Lake Opeka (1:05-1:30 pm)

Canada Goose (101)
Mallard (26) & Northern Shoveler (1-PR)
Greater (1) & Lesser (4) Scaup (Plus 1 I couldn't tell which it was)
Redhead (5-M & 2-F) & Ring Necked Duck (3-M)
Goldeneye (22) & Red Breasted Merganser (18)
Ring Billed (9) & Herring (16) Gulls

So 21 species at my three locations plus 2 roadside additions for a
total of 23.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Red Breasted Nuthatch as I haven't seen
many this Winter.
Runner-Up to the pair of Shovelers & the male Hooded Merganser.
Special award to all the interesting floaters that entertained me today.

License Plate Of The Day to one from Alabama.
