2 nighthawk watches in south Cook County this week (no sightings)

With Alan Anderson’s post, nighthawk fever 2026 has officially begun! Here are 2 opportunities to fan the flame in south Cook County this week:

• As Alan mentioned, the Chicago Bird  Alliance is throwing a nighthawk watch at Plum Creek Meadow this Friday from 6-8pm. Take a hike, have a picnic dinner, then relax for the main attraction under a big dome of sky. Bring your own chair.

• But first, bring your chair tonight to a nighthawk watch at The Nature Conservancy’s Shkode Prairies in Markham, formerly named Indian Boundary Prairies, from 6:30-8:00pm.
