Hello Bird People,
Pretty slow day at Montrose today but that was to be expected with the
east winds.
Only had one species of shorebird & that only after one hour of
looking. Only had 3 species of warblers but other birders had more.
Almost had the dreaded Shorebird Shutout today but I was saved by a
bouncy little Semipalmated Plover on the pier side of the beach. It's
too early to be worrying about Shorebird Shutouts!
Montrose Beach (6:30-8:30 am)
D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Canada Goose (~130)
Mallard (10 fly-bys & a mom Mallard with 3 young left from the 5 young
seen earlier)
Semipalmated Plover (1)
Ring Billed (~250) & Herring (10) Gulls
Hedge Area (8:30-10:45 am)
Rock Pigeon (2)
Downy Woodpecker (1-F) & Flicker (1)
Chickadee (2) & Red Breasted Nuthatch (H-1)
Swainson's Thrush (1), Robin (4) & Catbird (2)
Starling (2)
Warbling (2) & Red Eyed (1) Vireo's
Black Throated Green Warbler (1)
Northern Waterthrush (1)
Canada Warbler (1)
Cardinal (1-M)
House Finch (4) & Goldfinch (2)
(Others had one Purple Finch but I missed it)
House Sparrow (6)
So only 24 species at Montrose & 2 roadside additions for a day's total of 26.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the Semipalmated Plover who saved me from a
Shorebird Shutout &
Runners-Up to the Black Throated Green & the Canada Warbler.
