(Late) Montrose Beach & Pier & Ft Sheridan Hawk Watch Sunday 9-13-26

Hello Bird People,

This is a late report from Sunday, I'll do the Monday report later.

Montrose Beach & Pier (6:30-8:10 am)

Great Blue Heron (1, in the inlet)
Canada Goose (~100) & Mallard (2)
BLACK BELLIED PLOVER (1)
Killdeer (5)
PURPLE SANDPIPER (1, still here)
Least Sandpiper (1)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (1)
A PEREGRINE FALCON flew by, chased briefly by a Kestrel, spotted by Bob Hughes.

Fort Sheridan Hawk Watch (9:30-11:50 am) (With official counters Jeff

D.C. Cormorant (3 fly-bys)
One SNOW GOOSE flew by with 3 Canada Geese
Cooper's Hawk (2), Broad Winged Hawk (1) & Red Tailed Hawk (3)
Kestrel (2)
Merlin (1)
(Others saw a couple Osprey & a Bald Eagle)
Red Headed & Red Bellied Woodpeckers & Blue Jays

So 22 species for 9-13-26 with no add ons.
I need a new top bird so Bird-Of-The-Day will be the Broad Winged Hawk
with apologies to the Purple Sandpiper who was top bird the last two
days. Runner Up to the Peregrine Falcon & the Snow Goose.

For those who may not know, the Purple Sandpiper was attacked by a Cooper's Hawk and injured. It was rescued and taken for treatment.
