to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Was going to go west to look for breeding birds but I could see dark
clouds out that way & I knew the rain would start there sooner than if
I stayed local so that's what I did & went to the two Techny's. As it
was, I was rained out by 8:50 am even at Techny North.
Techny North (8:15-9 am)
Great Blue Heron (2)
Canada Goose (6) & Mallard (3)
Killdeer (4-AD & 3 young)
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER (2)
Spotted Sandpiper (6)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (2, one had a gimpy leg)
BALD EAGLE (1-AD, eating a large fish)
Herring Gull (1-AD, waiting for the Eagle to leave so he could get at the fish)
Caspian Tern (2, left when the Eagle arrived)
Willow Flycatcher (1) & Warbling Vireo (1)
Tree (4), Rough Winged (1) & Barn (2) Swallows
Robin (3) & Starling (1)
Red Wings (3) & Grackles (2)
Goldfinch (2)
Techny Basin (9:15-10 am) (Rain stopped but then started up again)
Great Blue Heron (2), Great Egret (1) & Black Crowned Night Heron (2)
Canada Goose (2) & Mallard (17-AD & 4 Young)
Killdeer (3) & Spotted Sandpiper (also 3)
Ring Billed Gull (2) & Caspian Tern (1)

Song Sparrow (1)
ORCHARD ORIOLE (1-AD-M)

So 29 species at my 2 locations plus 2 roadside additions for a day's
