Hello Bird People,
Since I missed yesterday's Common Gull due to being too far away to
get there on time I tried to recover by going today. That did not work
as the gull was a no show today. Lots of disappointed people there
today, myself included.
North Point Marina (10:15-11:35 am)
Met Bob E here & later we were joined by Lisa P, Regina M, Diane H &
Debbie D all of whom I usually see at Muirhead Springs but they came
in for the Gull Frolic. Bob & I did not go & frolic with the gulls but
viewed the harbor from the south side by the fishing pier.
Canada Goose (44, in the lake)
Mallard (86)
Black Duck (1)
Green Winged Teal (3-M)
Shoveler (1-M)
Wigeon (1-M)
Pintail (1-PR)
Gadwall (1-PR)
Greater (3) & Lesser (1-M) Scaup)
Goldeneye (3)
Common (1-M) & Red Breasted (16) Mergansers
Ruddy Duck (3-F)
Ring Billed (2) & Herring (~200) Gulls
GLAUCOUS GULL (1, 1st year)
Thayer's Gull (1)
(Bob also saw an adult Great Black Backed Gull before I arrived.)
Also did quick stops at Independence Grove & Ryerson but saw little there.
So 22 species at my locations plus 3 roadside additions for a day's
total of 25.
We saw 13 species of ducks today after seeing 14 yesterday at Wolf Lake/Powers.
The puddle/dabbling ducks are finally arriving.
Bird-Of-The-Day will be the young Glaucous Gull & Runners-Up will be the
Pintails, the Shoveler & the Green Winged Teal.
