I’ve been looking for the Merlin and finally one came back I’m pretty sure it’s a female probably the same one as before. I heard from someone that they were probably nesting somewhere in our area overall so I’m wondering if they had any young and if they fledged and if that’s why I finally am seeing one again after many months.
Local news I have I think three baby grackles which is pretty cool! And the Cooper’s Hawks had babies again and ate one of my baby Cardinals so I’m not so happy about that. The adults also ate baby Blue Jays in the nest and so the Blue Jays moved and I don’t know if they’re going to actually succeed this year in breeding or not which is important since they were gone for so many decades from my area. On the plus side the blue Gray gnatcatcher was using the honey locust again to feed its baby this year, that’s such a good native tree I never realized how many birds it supports. It’s very popular with the warblers in the spring. The robins have eaten all the black chokeberries which are supposed to be for the fall migrants! And I got to watch an orbweaver weaving it’s web this evening in my little micro Prairie and it really feels like fall and the bugs think so and the birds think so and the sky thinks so so this is interesting we’ll see what happens (with the future of the planet).
