IBET: Black-necked Stilts, LB Dowitcher in Winnebago County

This afternoon, Scott Hitchcock found 4 Black-necked Stilts at the Nygren Wetland Preserve, which is west of Rockton in Winnebago County, IL.  

When Barbara and I got there to look at the stilts, Barbara spotted a Long-billed Dowitcher, which is on the very early side of spring arrival dates.  Bohlen's Birds of Illinois reports a northern Illinois record from Whiteside County on April 6, 1986.

Also present were Wilson's Snipe, 50-60 Pectoral Sandpipers, Am. White Pelicans and many species of waterfowl.

I believe Jill Anderson had 5 at Miller Meadows (Cook County) back on Apr 2nd, 2003, which is the earliest N. IL record I remember.  I vaguely remember others the 1st week... definitely early and a great find!

• 2 April 2003 (5 birds), Miller Meadow FP (Cook Co) -- Jill Anderson [mentioned earlier by Eric Walters, and still the earliest for the northern tier]
• 3 April 1991, Rockford (Winnebago Co) -- Jeff Donaldson
• 3 April 2017, Will Co -- Susan Zelek
• 5 April 2013, Lee Co -- Dustin Holschuh
• 6 April 1986, Whiteside Co -- Lee Johnson
• 7 April 2018 (4 birds), Savanna (Carroll Co) -- Ethan Brown
